SACP Consistently Opposed to Parole for Janusz Walus, the Unrepentant Murderer of Chris Hani
6 September 2018
Today the North Gauteng High Court delivered its judgment on the parole application initiated by Janusz Walus, the cold-blooded and unrepentant murderer of our revered General Secretary, Comrade Chris Hani. The SACP and the Hani family attended the court proceeding in the City of Tshwane.
The court declared the decision by the Department of Home Affairs to deport Walus irrational and inconsistent with the Constitution. This confirmed the SACP's objection to the decision, which was made without representations from the parties affected by Hani's murder.
The parole application was remitted to the parole board for another consideration. The parole board must make its recommendations for decision-making by the Minister of Justice and Correctional Services within 120 days. The SACP and the Hani family will make submissions.
