Lifelong Motto—Single-hearted Unity

On October 8, Juche 86 (1997), Kim Jong Il was elected the General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea. Since then, the single-hearted unity of the DPRK with its long tradition has been remarkably strengthened.

In the latter half of the 1990s, when the country forced worst-ever difficulties owing to the vicious schemes of the imperialists aimed at isolating and suffocating the DPRK Kim Jong Il said: We should believe in the people as in heaven as they believe in the WPK as in heaven; herein lies the sure guarantee of single-hearted unity between the leader, the Party and the people and the source of all victories.

This was a reflection of his motto.

He put forward the slogan “Let us further glorify our style of socialism on the strength of single-minded unity!” and clarified that single-minded unity is the lifeline of the Korean revolution and an immortal banner to be consistently adhered to. He ensured that top priority was given to strengthening the unity in advancing the revolution and construction. Regarding revolutionary comradeship as the foundation of single-hearted unity and the benevolent and all-embracing politics as a mode of socialist politics, he paid special attention to developing the socialist ruling party to be the motherly party that exists for the people and takes care of their destiny on its own responsibility. The blood-sealed ties of the leader believing in the people and the people revering him and following his leadership have been established across the society—this is a fruition of the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.

Thanks to the harmonious whole of the leader, the Party and the masses, the country was able to defend its socialist system with honour in the showdown with the imperialists and open up an era of fresh turn in building a powerful socialist country. By dint of single-hearted unity, the DPRK has risen up as a dignified politico-ideological and military power which no enemy dare attack.

Today, the Korean people are advancing straight ahead along the road of socialism, firmly rallied behind the WPK with a feeling of kinship.

They will surely build a thriving socialist country on the strength of single-hearted unity in the near future, in support of their Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un who is one and the same as President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il in ideology, leadership and personality.
